About the Science Career Event

The Science Career Event is an information market where science students and employers can meet.  Students can orientate themselves on what the possibilities after university are, while employers can scout for future talents. The purpose of the Science Career Event is to narrow the gap between employers and students, the future employees.

The Stichting Betabanenmarkt is imposed with the task to organise the annual Science Career Event. Although the name implies a job fair, the Science Career Event is more than that. Aimed at 3rd year Bachelor students, Master Students, Ph'd students and postdocs from the Leiden University Science Departement and 3rd and 4th year students from the science courses at the Hogeschool Leiden, we organise a day where they can get an idea of what employers have to offer and this way we try to narrow the gap between university life and the working world. Employers on the other hand are not limited to just providing information on their business, but have the posibility to recruit future employees.

There are several ways for employers to present themselves. The first is having a stand on the information martket. Here students and other visitors can walk by and talk to this particular employer. The stands are ideally meant for students to get to know different companies, ask questions and receive information brochures The second possibility is a workshop, where a company can offer a business case or explain more about what it does for 50 minutes. Speed dating is also an option. An employee of a certain company will have a desk for an hour where he or she can have one on one interviews with students that will last for 10 minutes. The fourth option is offering internships at our internship board. Last but not least a company can offer an excursion or an in house day at its own site at a later date, to give people the opportunity to get to know the company even better.

In other words, we the Stichting Betabanenmarkt, will do our very best to be connecting you, student and employerm in every way possible.
