How does a typical working day at Rijk Zwaan look for a Researcher Quantitative Genetics?
Within this role you are responsible for investigating the linkage between genetic markers and phenotypic traits. Your main job will be to perform QTL-studies and/or to run genomic selection and genomic prediction analyses on the data provided to you, and to report the results back to your colleagues in a clear and concise way. In addition, you will investigate and develop new ideas and methodologies to further unravel the genetic basis of (complex) traits. Together with colleagues from other data-driven departments you will be involved in the development of tools that enable easy access and implementation of the gained knowledge within the entire organization.

Your contribution as a Researcher Quantitative Genetics
You are a team player who uses his or her analytical skills to find solutions. You like to take the initiative and you dare to be critical. Plant breeding and its practical application are of interest to you and you find it interesting to work in an interdisciplinary environment. You have good communication skills that enable you to easily interact with the many different people and groups within and outside the company. Proficiency in English is essential in view of the international nature of the department.

In addition we can find the following on your CV:
a university background in plant breeding, biology, mathematics and/or statistics
experience in quantitative genetics and statistical research, preferably during a PhD study
experience with developing scripts and/or packages in R, experience with R-Shiny would be an advantage.

Technician Bioinformatics

Are you interested in applying state-of-the-art bioinformatics techniques in plant breeding context? Are you a team player who enjoys to work in multidisciplinary projects? If so, apply for this position at our office in Fijnaart, The Netherlands.

Your day as Technician Bioinformatics:
In the biotechnology research facility of Rijk Zwaan, you will join the bioinformatics team to apply various bioinformatics analyses to answer the research questions. In these multidisciplinary projects, you will be responsible for analyzing and combining various omics data. Together with other bioinformatics colleagues, you are responsible for running and maintaining various existing bioinformatics analyses pipelines. You also maintain in-house databases and update them regularly. Your analytical skills and drive help you to maintain high quality standards on various bioinformatics analyses and resolve complex biological research questions. Next to that, together with your colleagues, you will contribute to the development and implementation of new bioinformatics tools and pipelines to facilitate and further expand genomics research at Rijk Zwaan.

Your contribution:
Hands on experience with next-generation sequence-related bioinformatics analyses (eg: whole/targeted genome assembly, alignments, annotation etc) and in utilizing various public databases. You are capable of working on several projects in parallel, while upholding high standards. Beside this you are an enthusiastic team player with "Can do" attitude and you have a constant drive to improve.

A Bachelor degree in Bioinformatics/Computational biology or similar
Advanced skill in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, R

Scientific Programmer

Are you inspired to develop new solutions for genomic research? Do you like to start from an idea to prototype till implemented tool? If so, apply for this full-time Scientific Programmer position at our office in Fijnaart, The Netherlands.

Your Role:
In the biotechnology research facility of Rijk Zwaan, you will join the bioinformatics team to design and develop new tools/pipelines for various bioinformatics applications. In close consultation with researchers and technicians, you will prototype new software/pipelines and implement them into stable (company-wide) solutions. In these projects, you will work in close collaboration with IT teams at Rijk Zwaan. You independently scout for new (open source) tools, introduce them to the bioinformatics team and test them on usability. You will be the main person involved in converting research level code to production level code that will lead to stable company wide data analyses solutions. In addition, you play a supportive role in answering biological questions by deploying available bioinformatics solutions for the team and other Rijk Zwaan researchers. In parallel, you take lead in setting up integrative resource platforms for comparative genomics applications. In this way, the position will offer you versatile challenges in a research environment and the opportunity to participate directly in the innovation process.

A master degree in computer science/Bioinformatics/Computational biology with a strong computational/software background

Experience in Linux environment (installation and testing of softwares and databases)
