Vacancies

Technical Software Engineer

Due to growth in technically complex projects, we are looking for talented software professionals with a passion for technology. As a technical software engineer you will work on innovative projects for the most prominent (international) R&D companies based in the Netherlands. You can think of companies active in robotics, agriculture, maritime & offshore, automotive, oil & gas and renewable energy, but also of several innovative leading knowledge institutes.

You will work on technical software applications such as building interfaces to make embedded systems usable, simulation software and/or real-time applications. Besides software development you will be asked to be active as a consultant: thinking along in increasing the quality of both the product and the development processes. This can be done by actively participating in the design and architecture of the applications, but also by shaping and improving the agile scrum process. The guarantee you get: each day is different.

To summarize, your tasks are as follows:
- Implementation of software.
- Setting up high-quality designs and software architecture.
- Ensure/guarantee the quality of the software and designs provided by you.
- Thinking about themes such as extensibility and maintainability.
- Proactively thinking along in improving software development (processes).
- Active knowledge sharing.

The projects you will be working on usually have a high innovative character and can vary from a few weeks to sometimes even a few years (e.g. from proof of concept to actual production worthy end product). You are responsible for the software development within a project and you know how to bring this to a good and higher level. Qualifying, designing and developing solutions requires an abstract level of thinking and the capacity to translate this into a practical solution. You often work together in a team, share ideas and look for the best suitable solutions.

At ALTEN, it is important that you embrace our core value of Knowledge Sharing. ALTEN offers you various opportunities through trainings and ‘knowledge evenings’ to grow further personally, but also to share your knowledge with colleagues and customers.

Your profile: who are we looking for?
As a Technical Software Engineer you will apply your passion for technology to different projects within dynamic customer environments. You know how to apply your technical knowledge at the customer and you can develop software in a structured way. Preferably you give solicited and unsolicited advice and know how to coach, motivate and guide your colleagues. You have good communication skills and can suggest improvements in a good manner. Your work as a consultant consists for 50% of craftsmanship and for 50% of soft skills.

In addition to making a valuable contribution to customer projects, we also find it important that you are involved within ALTEN. We value the team spirit and we expect our experienced consultants to contribute to this. This can be done by sharing knowledge, mentoring or coaching your colleagues and of course by attending (and organizing) various social events such as ice karting, curling, cooking and diving workshops or sports events such as the harbour run, volleyball tournaments and the annual sailing event.

Other than that, you have:
- Completed a Bachelor/Master education in Computer Science & Engineering;
- At least some experience with C++, C# or Java;
- Knowledge of object oriented programming and design;
- Experience with the Agile scrum way of working;
- Good command of the English language, both oral as written. Dutch is an asset.

What can you expect from us?
ALTEN offers a technically challenging environment where you can make a difference through the diversity of projects. In addition, we believe that as an engineer you never stop learning, which is why we offer you the opportunity to further develop yourself both personally and professionally. Within our ALTEN Academy we offer trainings that match your ambitions.

As an experienced engineer, you can take on a prominent role in the team. This can be done, for example, by actively participating in sharing knowledge, supervising and coaching students or Junior Engineers, or by increasing opportunities for ALTEN.

If, after the interviews, it turns out that you and ALTEN are a good match, we will immediately offer you a permanent contract. As we expect our consultants to be mobile, we offer you the choice between a lease car or a mobility allowance. In addition, we offer a good salary and a standard net expense allowance. We think it's important that you also have time to relax, that's why we give you 27 days off. Not enough? Then you can buy 10 more. You don't have to worry about your pension; we arrange that for you with a non-contributory pension scheme.

In order to shape your ambitions, you will be linked to both a Business Manager and a Technical Manager. Together you determine the course of your career.

ALTEN: about the company.
ALTEN works as a consultancy and engineering organization in various (niche) markets of the high-tech sector and IT. Knowledge in the field of technology plays an important role, which is the central pillar within ALTEN.

Your work is mainly focused on R&D, in which you are involved in setting up and working out the design and the implementation of the software at a high quality level. This can take place at the client's location, but can also be performed at the ALTEN Delivery Center in Eindhoven, Capelle a/d IJssel or Apeldoorn.

ALTEN offers plenty of challenges. For example, you can grow from the role of a Software Engineer to a Project Leader or the ultimate specialist. Apply now to strengthen our team!

Masterclass Technical Software Engineer

As an upcoming junior software engineer at ALTEN you will start in a six to eight week Masterclass. This Masterclass will prepare you for the start of your career as a software engineer. The Masterclass consists of various trainings in which you learn object-oriented programming in C++, for example, but also get to work with essential working methods such as test-driven development, UML and Scrum. In addition to following trainings, you will work on a project allowing you to directly apply the knowledge gained from the trainings. During this project you will be involved in the development of a design, the implementation of the code and finally testing the end product. During the Masterclass you will have your own coach who will guide you during the project and provide you with feedback on the code you have written.

Once you have completed the Masterclass, you will start as a software engineer at ALTEN. You will work on software products within various high-tech sectors, such as healthcare, automotive and agriculture. You write code that is efficient, but also understandable for the rest of your team. Within your project, you keep a close eye on the bottlenecks in order to provide advice on how to achieve optimal results.

Your profile: who are we looking for?

You have a high analytical ability and want to immerse yourself enthusiastically in the world of technical software.

You can expect us to do everything in our power to prepare you optimally for your role as a software engineer at ALTEN. That's why we expect you to take some control over your learning curve and indicate when you run into a problem or need more guidance. In this way your career can start with a solid base!

Other than that, you have:
- Obtained a technical degree on HBO or WO level (bachelor, master or PhD);
- Knowledge of programming, but not more than a year of professional experience;
- Good command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written.

What can you expect from us?
